With the help of my husband, David Minetti and two other associates from my office, Debra DeFranco and Sharon Asay, we started a long journey. These same four people were the first officers of the LCOC. On April 8th of 2009, we had a meeting to see if there was an interest among the Lacey business community in having a Chamber of Commerce once again. It was held at the Captain’s Inn and 14 people were in attendance. Although the attendance was not what we had hoped, the feedback from those who attended was positive. So, for the remainder of 2009, we continued to have monthly informational meetings to generate more interest in the LCOC. Each meeting offered networking opportunities as well as an educational topic to benefit business owners. Slowly but surely, word began to spread and more businesses came out to see what the new Lacey Chamber of Commerce was all about.
Meanwhile, I began to set things in motion to officially establish the new Lacey Chamber of Commerce. One of the first steps was to create our mission statement: “We are a network of reputable area businesses supporting and promoting each other while working toward the common goal of improving Lacey’s business climate.” Then the necessary paperwork was filed with the State and the by-laws were created. Shortly after, we obtained our PO Box, established a phone number, opened our bank account, designed our logo and website. The Lacey Chamber of Commerce was on its way.
